    Ephesians 4:29 (AMP)
Let no foul or polluting language, nor evil word nor unwholesome or worthless talk [ever] come out of your mouth, but only such [speech] as is good and beneficial to the spiritual progress of others, as is fitting to the need and the occasion, that it may be a blessing and give grace (God’s favor) to those who hear it.
Every day during every moment, words are spilling out of our mouths. Have you ever taken a moment to consider what you are saying? What do others know about you? You see, others who hear you every day, have a different perspective of you than the one you have of yourself. Do you know how others see you? When a crisis arises, are you the one they seek out for wisdom or words of comfort and direction or do they seek someone else? When they come to you, do you give them your own opinion, a pat answer or do you seek the word of the Lord and choose to give only what you receive from Him?

My wife and I were talking this morning and she reminded me of what she sees. When our son is faced with a crisis, he comes to me, his dad, and seeks my counsel for he has already learned that I will never give him my own thoughts but will always seek the counsel of the Lord on every matter. She also reminded me of all the many times others we know have done the same. These examples she shared with me were humbling to me to say the least. I had forgotten that this is how others see me for I do not see myself in this way. I have long endeavored to walk in that verse above but had not been able to see myself and the changes those words have had in my own life.

After reading that verse the very first time, it seemed to me that every word I speak that does not come from God was a word that brings death but every word that comes from God brings life. So I sought to guard the words of my mouth and guard my heart from which the words come from. In this way, the discipline of the Lord came to aid me in this, His will for me. Guard your hearts for out of it comes the issues of life.
