    Silver and Gold...

    Silver and Gold...

    Acts 3:6 (NKJV)
    Then Peter said, “Silver and gold I do not have, but what I do have I give you:In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, rise up and walk.”
    In this day and age where everyone is looking for money or monetary opportunities, a statement like this would probably be ignored or at the least, laughed to scorn. Our society looks to the government handouts or local charity to fill our basic needs with nary a thought of God as the One who will rescue us.

    We live at a time in America where we feel we are all entitled. Someone OWES us and we have a right to what we did not earn ourselves, simply because the rich have much and the poor have so little. Redistribution of wealth seems to be the order of the day. Gone are the days where men look to God in their time of trouble. If the government can't or won't help, we turn to charitable organizations. For our health concerns, there are free or near free clinics and charity hospitals or we can apply for medicare and medicaid or file for disability.

    There seems to be little call for faith in God, for it is the prevailing attitude in the church today that the God of the early church has retired from miracles, healings, deliverances and the such. He is only capable or interested in salvation alone.

    Although the bible says that Jesus is the same yesterday, today and forever and that God does not change, we tend to think that perhaps He has changed His mind about mankind and is no longer in the business of healing broken bodies, opening blind eyes, causing the lame to walk, or raising to life those who are dead. After all, we have doctors and highly advanced medical science to handle all that other stuff. If they can't do it, then all hope is then lost for God, apparently can no longer do this stuff today.

    Our faith in a God that has unlimited power has so diminished that He can do no more than we ourselves can do. The only time we actually do call upon Him is when we've exhausted all other resources and it is then, and only then, we expect Him to come running to our aid when we have exhausted ourselves in ignoring Him throughout the process.

    Ever wonder WHY He has not answered with the miraculous? When we put our trust in any other than God, it is those things He will let bring us deliverance. If we are depressed and we trust in psychologists and psychiatrists, then let them find the solution. If they cannot, then we cry to God. Since we put our trust in another "god", then let that "god" deliver us.
    Isaiah 31:1-3 (NKJV)
    The Folly of Not Trusting God
    1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help,
    And rely on horses,
    Who trust in chariots because they are many,
    And in horsemen because they are very strong,
    But who do not look to the Holy One of Israel,
    Nor seek the Lord!
    2 Yet He also is wise and will bring disaster,
    And will not call back His words,
    But will arise against the house of evildoers,
    And against the help of those who work iniquity.
    3 Now the Egyptians are men, and not God;
    And their horses are flesh, and not spirit.
    When the Lord stretches out His hand,
    Both he who helps will fall,
    And he who is helped will fall down;
    They all will perish together.
    So it is today, as we put our trust in that which is not God, we shall all perish together with those we put our trust in.

    As for me and my house, we shall put our trust in the Lord. He is our first choice
    Psalms 20:7-9 (NKJV)
    Some trust in chariots, and some in horses;
    But we will remember the name of the Lord our God.
    8 They have bowed down and fallen;
    But we have risen and stand upright.
    9 Save, Lord!
    May the King answer us when we call.
    God has continually shown Himself faithful in all things. We trust Him in His purposes, whether known by us or not. Although I have not silver or gold, I am ready to give what is the most valuable of all my possessions, my faith in the goodness and mercies of God.
