There Is Power In The Name of Jesus!

There Is Power In The Name of Jesus!

Jesus gave those who believed in Him, authority over all the power of the darkness of this world. This starts with the authority Jesus received from the Father as He rose from death to life.
    Matthew 28:18 (NKJV)
And Jesus came and spoke to them, saying, “ All authority has been given to Me in heaven and on earth.
This authority was demonstrated while He was still alive:
    Luke 4:36 (NKJV)
Then they were all amazed and spoke among themselves, saying, “What a word this is! For with authority and power He commands the unclean spirits, and they come out.”
    Jesus, speaking to His disciples...
    Luke 10:19 (NKJV)
Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.
In all of this, He also reminded them of the most important thing for them to remember which is what we too would benefit from not forgeting but keep foremost in our minds and our hearts...
    Luke 10:20 (NKJV)
Nevertheless do not rejoice in this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rather rejoice because your names are written in heaven.”
The question arises today, "Do we need such power and authority today?" To answer this, we need to ask another question. Do demons still exist today? They most certainly did in the day of Jesus two thousands years ago but what about today. Most consider they do not except in the movies or fictional books or in the minds of the demented. This thinking is because mankind has reached a point of unbelief in the supernatural where reason and rational thinking has replaced the so-called boogey man with diseases of the mind.

Today, we have names for these maladies other than those used in Jesus' day. We call them schizonphrenia, depression, anxiety attacks, mental illness, etc. All these have been named by a relatively new profession in the history of man who call themselves psychologists and psychiatrists. These "professionals" are men who have studied the behavioral aspects of mankind and through this study have determined that these conditions can only be treated through therapeutic sessions and/or pharmaceutical products.

Recently, a well known minister of a large church lost a son to what was listed in the papers and media as chronic or clinical depression. This young man was a loving follower of Christ who could not defeat that onslaught of hopelessness and took his own life in a single overwhelming moment of depression. He has suffered most of his life with this malady and none of the help from these modern day "ministers" could bring him lasting relief.

It is this writer, a follower of Christ, that looks at this scenario as a glaring report of the condition of the church at large. Where has the authority of Jesus gone? Why was this demon and the others attached to it not driven out of this young man. He was in the perfect position as a child of the King to receive his deliverance. Jesus said that deliverance is the children's bread:
    Mark 7:27 (NKJV)
But Jesus said to her, “ Let the children be filled first, for it is not good to take the children's bread and throw it to the little dogs.”
This He said to the woman who was not a Jew. By children, Jesus was speaking of the children of Israel, heirs of the promise. This promise extends to all who believe in Him. So the question still begs, "Why was this young man not delivered?" Could it be that we simply do not believe in demons and possession or oppression by spirits of darkness? Has the church moved away from the spiritual and the clear teachings of scripture and began to explain away the truths of the word of God as silly superstition?
    Ephesians 6:12 (NKJV)
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places.
What does this verse of scripture mean then if we are not truly wrestling with the powers of darkness and spiritual wickedness that reside in heavenly places? And how about the following:
    Ephesians 6:13-17 (NKJV)
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
    14 Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, 15 and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16 above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one. 17 And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God;
If God is instructing us by His Holy Spirit that we should be ready and put on the armor in which He has provided for us to fight in a war that continues to rage which has raged since before man was created, but somehow today, there is no longer a need for this because the demons were all cast out in Jesus' day and is no longer a problem for mankind?!? Paul, the one who wrote this letter to the Ephesians knows all too well the working of his nemesis as he encountered this dark spiritual force everywhere he preached the gospel of the kingdom of God. Even Peter gave warning about this very thing.
    1 Peter 5:8-9 (NKJV)
Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 9 Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world.
If the church does not believe that this dark spiritual entity no longer is a problem but can be dealt with by unbelieving men and women who bring with them another gospel and not the gospel of Jesus Christ, then where did these demons go? According to God's Word, when Lucifer rebelled, he was cast down to the earth along with one third of all the angels of heaven. All these fallen angels are now called demons, princes and powers of the air, principalities and powers, spiritual wickedness in high places. Did they just give up? Did they no longer afflict mankind? Are we free of their oppression and possession?

Truly today, the world is full of people who are incessantly oppressed by these entities and because the world does not recognize them as such, seek to the treat the afflicted through their own understanding. It is no wonder that many have committed suicide rather than face the constant, non-stop affliction inflicted on them by this untiring unrelenting spiritual beings. These demons seek to bring the very torment upon humankind in the same manner they intend to inflict upon those who reject the gospel of Jesus Christ for all eternity in the fires of hell. They do not sleep. They do not die. They are eternal beings. Until Jesus returns, these beings will continue unabated their onslaught against human beings as we are viewed with such hatred as we are the ones created in the very image of God whom they have a sworn hatred.

Brethren, these demons still exist and they are still afflicting people all over the world. What we, as the church, have done is to relegate these unfortunate souls to a lifetime of oppression and possession to these unclean spirits because we refuse to become involved in their eradication. We choose to not believe in them. Better to ignore them and perhaps they will just go away. NOT TRUE! I have encountered these demons throughout my Christian life and have driven out more than I can remember. They exist and continue to afflict all of mankind and the only hope for mankind's deliverance from these entities is for the church to rise up and take its rightful authority that Jesus gave us so that we can set the captives free in Jesus' Name!

I am going to give you just one example of one of my own experiences, although there are literally hundreds of testimonies I could give you. There was a Christian brother, not named, that had disturbing dreams of which he sought interpretation. I am a prophet of the most High God and He gives me interpretations of dreams as one of His gifts. As soon as I heard the dreams, I received their meaning and arranged a meeting between this brother and I. He came to my house. As we talked and I gave him the meaning of the dreams, I explained to him about demons. He was one of the many who did not know they existed today.

Once I showed him the scriptural proofs, one of these demons began to manifest. This religious spirit (demon) began to stretch out this man's arms toward me with his hands grasping as if they were claws. The Spirit of The Lord told me this was that religious spirit and immediately I commanded his arms be bound behind him in Jesus' name. His arms flew behind him and although he struggled to free them, he could not. Once this demon quit manifesting, the other demon God revealed in the dreams began to manifest. Suddenly this large man became very jittery. He started bouncing up and down on the sofa. As this was happening, the Spirit of The Lord told me it was the spirit of nicotine. Suddenly, this man stood up and said he needed to go out to his vehicle to get a smoke. As soon as he said this, I spoke, rendering his legs powerless from under him. Instantly, he fell into the sofa and could not feel his legs.

While these things were happening to him, it were as if he were not in control and could see himself and all that was happening but only as a bystander. He was no longer in control. The demons had taken over. He said that when I spoke to bind his arms behind him, he felt strong vice-like hands grip his arms and pull them behind his back and he could not move them, so powerful was the grip by this unseen force. When he stood up to go get a cigarette from his vehicle, suddenly, he lost all feeling in his legs and once sitting again, could no longer feel his legs.

No ministry was performed at the time but God used this to prove to this man that demons did exist and how powerful they were in his life. Later, he made arrangements with our teams at church to receive ministry and to this day, he is still free of these demons. There is great power over all the powers of darkness. I have been used of God to deliver His children from something as small as a simple headache to something as severe as multiple possessions where the believer was incapacitated because of what the psychiatrists called paranoid schizophrenia. I never let these long fanciful names deter me from the truth. These are demons and as such, must be cast out. In this one person, more than 30 demons were cast out. After such a session, it is important for that believer to no longer sin as Jesus warned so many or a worse thing could come upon you.

Once a demon is cast out, it goes into dry places and after a while returns to its former home. If that home is cleaned but empty, then that demon finds 7 others worse than himself and returns to that home and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Jesus did not explain this phenomena if it were not true. The very God of creation has just instructed us how it works in the realm of the spirit. Who are we to say it is not true. Have WE seen the spiritual realm to discount what Jesus said?! Until God has opened your own eyes to see the unseen, then say you do not believe. For God has opened my eyes to see this spiritual realm and these demons are ever active and whispering into the ears of all men, saved or unsaved.

Jesus has not lied to us. His apostles have not lied to us. Satan has! He has convinced the world that he and his hordes of demons only exist in fairy tales and men's imaginings. Folks, this is a LIE! The evidence is all around us and if we continue in unbelief, then we have denied the very deliverance Jesus died to give us the freedom He has promised. If we do not appropriate what He has given, then we turn away from Him and the power and authority He has freely given us to destroy the works of the evil one. How can we think that we can even stand when so great a salvation is denied by us by our own unbelief!? Woe unto us who choose to turn away from that which He clearly teaches is the source of all evil and walk away into the trust of the world because they sound so reasonable. How is it we have turned again to the fables of men when Jesus came to prove to us that it is only by His Truth we can stand against the wiles of the devil and his deceptions?

Brethren, we need to read that Holy Word of God again and ask the author of this Holy Book what He was saying and that He open the eyes of our understanding so that we can believe what He has written. For if we continue in our unbelief, then, according to Romans 11, we too will be cut off as the children of promise were because of their unbelief. You say you believe in Jesus but the demons believe and THEY tremble. Why then do YOU not tremble before the HOLY GOD of the bible?! The Jews were the original olive branches but were cut off because of unbelief. If we do not continue in faith, then we too will be cut off as they were. Just because you accepted Jesus as your Savior, does not mean you have allowed Him to be Lord of your life. It is this Lordship He seeks in your life that will bring you to your destination with Him. If you refuse to walk where He walks, then you are not worthy of Him and whatever righteousness you have done before will not be remembered.

God has given us great power and authority over all the powers of the evil one and if we do not exercise that authority, then what little we have will be taken away from us and given to one who uses what God has given them. Be counted among those who through faith, exercise that which was given. Do not walk in unbelief but BELIEVE!
