You Will Find Me Here...In The Desert

    "Hosea 2:14 (NLTse)
14 “But then I will win her back once again.
I will lead her into the desert and speak tenderly to her there.
We started off in this life doing what WE wanted to do, pleasing ourselves, seeking our own way. God let us. Did He want this for us? Absolutely not, but He let us have our own way.

We had fun, drank, smoked, did drugs, had sex outside of marriage. We did whatever we wanted and whatever we could afford. God let us go our own way. He did not interfere. He knew what our choices would bring us but He never interfered with our choices. God let us have our way.

We pursued the desires of our fancy. We ran as far away from Him as we could and God never once stood in our way. God let us have our way.

Then one day, we reached a dead end in our lives. No matter what we did, we could not find that elusive happiness we were seeking for. The drugs could no longer give us what we wanted. The drinking just made us miserable. The smoking robbed us of our energy and strength. The fun was no longer fun. Yet, we still continued with our pursuit of our own way, still seeking to satisfy our own pleasures. Yet, God let us have our own way.

Eventually, we reach a point where there is nothing left for us. Our hope is gone. Our strength is gone. Our happiness is gone. Nothing excites our imagination anymore. The only thing we have to look forward to is......more emptiness. And God let us go there to this place of emptiness.

Just as in the verse quoted above, God let us pursue our own way until that way led us to the one place we have tried to avoid with all our might. Our way led us into a place of total desolation....a desert where there is no more hope, no water, no relief, no shelter, no place of rest, no happiness, no joy, no fun, no nothing.....just the emptiness and desolation of the desert.

God let us have our own way until our way ran out of all excuses, all fight, all rebellion, all hope. God let us have our way and our way only brought us to a place of death. Yes, God let us come to death and it is IN this place of death, this place of utter hopelessness that He waited for us just so He can speak love to us and show us His kindness.

For it is in the desert, in that place of hopelessness and desolation that we can finally begin to see how desperate we are without Him. It is in this place of hopelessness with no longer any confidence in our own way that we will be brought to our knees and seek Him out for everyone else has forgotten us, betrayed us, abandoned us, rejected us. Who would want to live in such a desolate place as the desert, surrounded by death and dryness with no water to cool the tongue or shelter from the scorching sun and the dry winds?

God let us have our own way until our own way ran its course and produced for us that fruit that flesh produces....DEATH.
    Hosea 2:14 (NLTse)
14 “But then I will win her back once again.
I will lead her into the desert
and speak tenderly to her there.
Yes my friend. God was the One who was leading you all the time and you were completely unaware of it. He was the One who led you to this place of desolation, this desert, because He knew something about you that you did not know about yourself. He knew you would never find fulfillment, never find happiness, never find peace in seeking your own way or your own pleasure. He knew, since He is the source of all life, that if He let you go where you wanted to go, eventually, you would end up here, in the desert where He was waiting for you.

God let you have your way so that eventually, you would find Him at the end of your own way, in that place of utter hopelessness so that He might speak to you TENDERLY. God waited all this time for you to learn that there is no life outside of Him. He waited till you spent yourself and frustrated yourself because only by this will you no longer choose your own way after you have tasted of the fruit of death that your way eventually led you to.

God waited patiently for you and allowed you to suffer, not because He wanted you to suffer but only in that suffering would you finally learn that your way is not the right way. God loved you enough to let you hurt yourself by your own hand, by your own stubbornness, by your own pride, by your own selfishness because He knew where all that would eventually lead you to Him in the desert.

God let you have your way so that in the end, you would discover His way. NOW are you ready to let Him have His way in you? Are you convinced now that you do not have the capacity to find that peace, find that love, find that security, find that place of safety, find that rest on your own? All of these can only be found in Him.

God let you have your own way so that you would learn that it is not in man that walks to direct his own way. Jesus said of Himself, "I AM THE WAY, I AM THE TRUTH, I AM THE LIFE AND NO MAN CAN COME TO THE FATHER BUT BY ME!"

Yes, God let you run your course so that you would never even WANT to go your way ever again. And now that you've reached the end of your way and saw that the result was not what you had hoped it would be, He can now begin to speak with tenderness towards you and show you His great love for you and the plans He has for you. Plans for peace. Plans for rest. Plans for love. Plans for safety. Plans for fruitfulness and joy. Plans for righteousness. So that you can have an expected end in Him and in His arms and in His presence.

Yes, God let you have your way. Now it is time for you to choose His way. Will you do it? Will you trust Him? If your answer is YES, then RIGHT NOW, not tomorrow but NOW, give to Him the reigns and the controls over your life. Allow God to BE YOUR LORD! Give it all to Him right now! Don't waste another moment, DO IT NOW!
