    VERSE OF THE DAY - Psalms 119: 106-107, 112

    Psalms 119:106, 107, 112
    106 I have sworn an oath and confirmed it,
    to keep your righteous rules.
    107 I am severely afflicted;
    give me life, O Lord, according to your word!
    112 I incline my heart to perform your statutes
    forever, to the end.
    Notice the progression in these 3 verses. The writer starts by declaring, in his own strength, his devotion and self-determination to accomplish God's word.

    The next verse shows the immediate results of his attempts to do all God commands through his own strength resulting in failure and defeat.

    But notice how his understanding changed in verse 112. No longer does he make assertions that he will accomplish all the commandments of The Lord through his own strength but now, after learning that he has not the strength nor the ability to do so in his strength, he chooses a better approach. He now, INCLINES his heart to do them.

    From these scant three verses, a very important life lesson is learned. As long as we make our attempts to obey God through our own strength with self-confidence in our ability, we shall fail. If we SEEK to obey the commandments of God through HIS strength and no longer rely upon our own strength of will and self-determination but rely on God's strength and ability, we shall succeed.

    For it is GOD who works in us to WILL and TO DO of His good pleasure. God gives us the desire and when this desire has accomplished its task, God then gives to us His strength and ability to accomplish His pleasure. This is the working of grace!
