Where Is The Holy Spirit In Our Lives Today?

Nearly everyday I see on Facebook, posts that well meaning men of God encourage others to make their own determination based upon their own perspectives and experiences. Today, I read a post by a well respected man of God doing exactly that. Here is the post verbatim:
“Something for you to THINK ABOUT today….I judge each opportunity by asking myself, “How does this fit into the vision God has given for my life? Does it fit into the role God has assigned for my life?” If the answer is, “This is a great idea, but it doesn’t add to the vision God gave me,” then I know the opportunity isn’t for me. It may be a God-inspired dream for someone else to pursue, but that someone isn’t me.”
The question of “How” and the answer suggested all fit squarely into reliance upon one’s own ability to determine what is good or bad. Nothing is said about seeking the Holy Spirit’s wisdom. Even David, before he was king, refused to trust his own wisdom when seeking to rescue his and his army’s families taken captive by the Amalekites. By all rights, we would have taken matters into our own hands considering the justification of our actions. After all, what the Amalekites did was evil and we would be right in fighting back…right? WRONG! David did what was right, not in his own sight, but in God’s sight. He sought the direction and approval from God “before” making his choice. He, forever, gave us a clear example of what we should do when faced with a decision or crossroads in life.

The responses to this post are all in agreement. I believe the reason there was no other dissent by my own is because we have all been trained since our youth to make our own choices based upon our own wisdom. This was supposed to have changed once coming to Christ but it hasn’t, for the most part. Even leaders continue to propagate this message of self-reliance. That Serpent’s purpose in the Garden of Eden was to tear mankind’s dependence on God to self-reliance in order to “be like God”.

Today, this deception has not changed but has been “Christianized”. We are taught in the Word of God that we are the “Body of Christ” and as such, are completed reliant upon the Head, Jesus Christ. Jesus said it Himself in John 15. Yet, this slick deception continues unabated in the church with respected leaders practicing and teaching others to practice this selfsame lie.

In essence, this Christian leader is saying by his words, “If God has given you a vision, then that is all that you need and anything that does not appear to “fit” that vision, then we can rightfully reject it.” Consider this for a moment. If God’s thoughts are higher than ours, how is it WE can determine whether a thing is part of His plan or not? We cannot see beyond our own moments but we can determine what God is doing when we cannot see tomorrow?

This counsel by this Christian leader is from our adversary and not from God as it does not point to God but leads men to “reject” the counsel of God through His Holy Spirit and decide for ourselves what “we” can see and understand. The entirety of the Bible has taught that it is this very kind of “wisdom” that put Israel in continue jeopardy throughout their history.

I urge you brethren, turn away from such “counsel” regardless of by whom it may come. Well intentioned counsel, if not pointing the way to dependency on the Holy Spirit, is not from God but a product of a life that has chosen to reject the leading and guidance of the Holy Spirit to forge their own way and this way does NOT lead to life but to destruction. So as a reminder, here is what Jesus taught His disciples:
John 15:1-8 NKJV “ I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser. Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit He takes away; and every branch that bears fruit He prunes, that it may bear more fruit. You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.
“ I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit; for without Me you can do nothing. If anyone does not abide in Me, he is cast out as a branch and is withered; and they gather them and throw them into the fire, and they are burned. If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, you will ask what you desire, and it shall be done for you. By this My Father is glorified, that you bear much fruit; so you will be My disciples.
