CORRECTION: When is right to refuse it?

CORRECTION: When Is Okay To Refuse It?

Is there EVER a time when we should refuse it? What are the parameters that justify our refusal of correction?

These are important questions we need to consider because every soul who names the name of Jesus will receive correction and at times, He may actually send another brother or sister to speak His correction. Will you refuse him or her because you do not like the way they speak to you? If you are one who seeks correction from the Lord because you see your need and desire to know that truth that makes you free, you will not care in what form that correction comes because your heart is already set to receive all from the Lord. However, if you consider yourself as having NO NEED for correction because you are right in your own eyes and do not require correction, you will reject it when it comes and judge the form it takes and reject that person or event too. The verses listed below show how important correction is to God and for the health of our relationship with Him.

So many who cannot receive correction. My heart is so heavy. God DOES send me into people's lives to speak His heart to them but mostly what I get from those He sends me to is to be vilified by them. It doesn't hurt me personally but I can feel the heart of my Lord and His is breaking as His children look on the outward man and to not use righteous judgment. What is worse, they then turn around and speak evil about the one sent to them. Although the name is not mentioned, this does not escape the notice of the Lord who sees everything and knows the motives of the heart.

How important it is to have a teachable spirit but if you will not be corrected, then where do you learn the truth? If God sends someone to you to speak His words to you and you refuse, are you not then filled with pride? King Saul was rejected by God because of his self-reliance and the pride that was in his heart. Will He reject you too because you refuse His correction? How important does God view correction?

It is because the Father loves us that He corrects us and He will use every means possible to do so. In the worldly school system, they adopted a method of correction of "pass or fail" instead of what it should have used. The correct method of correction is not to pass or fail but to determine where you are weakest so that additional teaching and instruction could be given. Sadly, this is absent in our school system except for some exceptional teachers. Every purpose of God is to show us where we do not MEET His requirements or design and by sending correction our way, His hope is that we will receive that correction as coming from Him but if we see it as an attack and refuse it, then we are doomed to continue in our current state of error.

Here are some scriptures regarding correction:
    — Proverbs 3:11-12 (NKJV)11 My son, do not despise the chastening of the LORD,Nor detest His correction;12 For whom the LORD loves He corrects,Just as a father the son in whom he delights.
    — Proverbs 5:11-13 (NKJV)11 And you mourn at last,When your flesh and your body are consumed,12 And say:“How I have hated instruction,And my heart despised correction!13 I have not obeyed the voice of my teachers,Nor inclined my ear to those who instructed me!
    — Proverbs 10:17-18 (NKJV)17 He who keeps instruction is in the way of life,But he who refuses correction goes astray.18 Whoever hides hatred has lying lips,And whoever spreads slander is a fool.
    — Proverbs 12:1 (KJV)1 Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
    — Proverbs 13:18 (NKJV)18 Poverty and shame will come to him who disdains correction,But he who regards a rebuke will be honored.
    — Proverbs 15:5 (NKJV)5 A fool despises his father's instruction,But he who receives correction is prudent.
    — Proverbs 15:10 (NKJV)10 Harsh discipline is for him who forsakes the way,And he who hates correction will die.
    — Jeremiah 5:3-4 (NKJV)3 O LORD, are not Your eyes on the truth? You have stricken them,But they have not grieved; You have consumed them,But they have refused to receive correction. They have made their faces harder than rock; They have refused to return.4 Therefore I said, “Surely these are poor. They are foolish; For they do not know the way of the LORD,The judgment of their God.
    — Proverbs 19:18 (NKJV)18 Chasten your son while there is hope,And do not set your heart on his destruction.
    — Hebrews 12:7-8 (NKJV)7 If you endure chastening, God deals with you as with sons; for what son is there whom a father does not chasten? 8 But if you are without chastening, of which all have become partakers, then you are illegitimate and not sons.
    — Revelation 3:19 (NKJV)19 “As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Therefore be zealous and repent.

    1. Much needed teaching. The correction only brings a more purer walk and life. I would hate to hear him say, Depart from me you worker of lawlessness.
