"Self loathing" when as a result of those things that happened before getting saved and continue after being saved is no longer considered a sin but rather the results of sin. The sin factor was removed when Lazarus was raised from death as sin was the cause of death. However the results of sin as represented by his grave clothes still had to be removed after he was made alive by Jesus. The grave clothes represent those things that bound us in death and continue to bind us in life. It is we who are alive and dressed in the clothing of the living that are commanded by Jesus to, "Loose him and let him go."

"Depression is a result of a battle for the spirit played out in the mind." The mansion and many rooms metaphor is the best way to understand what is happening when depression hits a believer. What has happened is that in one of several areas, the enemy has attacked the person robbing them of hope through lies. The person with the depression already had unresolved issues with their self worth and since these self worth issues have been unresolved the enemy uses more and more lies to keep that person in bondage. Drugs trick the brain into making the person feel better but even this is a lie. It doesn't heal the wounds of years of being beaten down usually by parents, siblings and peers. As long as these issues are not resolved, the person taking the drugs will remain dependent on them as a way to "feel" better. I see the use of drugs such as those used for depression as one of the lying wonders spoken of by the bible.

As far as how to cure depression, the person must be saved. Without salvation the demons working in that person will just come back with 7 more demons worse than those cast out.

If the depressed person is a believer, then they need the ministry of inner healing. They are a house or mansion with many rooms that have long ago been sealed up and forgotten. This is typically due to the amount of pain or sorrow or even trauma that had occurred in the person's life early in life, usually as small children. Their reaction of fear, unforgiveness, judgment and vows are sin but have been forgiven through the new birth but in order to remove all ground by which the enemy may continue to bring accusation, we lead the person in a prayer to forgive those who have harmed them whether in their actual actions or perceived actions. Once this has been done, they must forgive themselves. This is an area where the enemy continues his onslaught. The person's self worth. Once this is done, it is time to drive out the demonic infestation. After this, it is time to pray for God to touch this person to confirm His love towards them. There will be a lot of crying at this time but it is a healthy cry as the person is receiving their healing from the Spirit of the Lord.

When Lazarus was having his grave clothes removed from him, not all was removed as he would be left naked. The remainder of the grave clothes would need to be removed by himself. Once these are removed, there remains one more step before he puts on the clothing of the living. He must wash with water the stains of death that remain on his body. These are the body's own fluids that came as a result of decomposition. According to the spiritual metaphor, these are the stains of sin...iniquity....that propensity to continue in sin. These stains are those hidden judgments, unforgiveness and vows or promises we made to ourselves that we wouldn't allow ourselves to do what we have witnessed others do.

So in summary, depression is NOT a medical condition, it is a SPIRITUAL condition as a result of wounds received, usually from childhood. It is the festering of these wounds that are diagnosed as depression. The only cure is a spiritual remedy. Pills for depression is a lying wonder with the enemy's intent on deceiving even the very elect of God. And the only cure for depression is to root out it's hidden cause, minister forgiveness and minister healing through God's love. This is what the ministry of "Inner Healing" is all about.
