    How Are We Chosen?

    How Are We Chosen?

    John 6:67-70 (NKJV)
Then Jesus said to the twelve, “ Do you also want to go away?”
68 But Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. 69 Also we have come to believe and know that You are the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
70 Jesus answered them, “ Did I not choose you, the twelve, and one of you is a devil?”
Many are called but few are chosen. We read about this but did you know how Jesus goes about choosing us? Remember that time at the mountain of God in the book of Exodus when Moses came down after receiving the law, the camp was in an uproar as the children of Israel were worshipping the golden calf. Moses cried out, "Who is for the Lord?" And only the tribe of Levy responded.

Until that time of choosing, it was God's desire for the whole nation to be a kingdom of priests but it was not to be. When Moses asked for their choice, they all rejected except for Moses' own tribe, the Levites. As a result, God chose the tribe of Levy to be his priests with the rest to be downgraded to receive only the blessings.

You may think this was not a bad choice as the other tribes received an inheritance of lands to be given to them throughout their generations but you would be wrong. For the inheritance God gave to those who chose Him was the best of all the flocks and the fruit of the earth from all the other tribes AND most importantly, God gave Himself as their greatest inheritance.

Today, it is the same as then. Jesus had many followers but when He required they should eat of His flesh and drink of His blood to have any part of Him, all left and followed Him no more. Only the twelve remained and when Jesus asked them if they were going to leave as well, they chose Jesus, recognizing two things. Jesus alone has the words of eternal life and they recognized that He was God's only begotten Son, the Son of the Promise. It was then Jesus said that He chose them with one being of the devil.

Brethren, it is when we do not turn away and recognize that if we desire life eternal and believe Jesus is the ONLY source of that life, then it is we whom He has chosen, just as the Levites were chosen. It is we whom He has called and chosen to be a royal priesthood and to rule and reign with Him in His Father's kingdom.

He will be our great reward and our greatest inheritance. Unlike the others who only wanted Him for what He could do for them and how He could bless them, it is we who are privileged to know Him in a way no others will ever know Him. For it is we who have chosen Him that will receive the keys to His Father's kingdom.

What a joy and a privilege to be included in that number! For this privilege can only come to those who have realized that the life they have chosen to live has its only value, its only worth, in loving Jesus and being in service to Him. Gone from them is even the slightest hints or desires of the lusts of this world for our hearts and our sights are set on His heavenly kingdom and we refuse all rewards except for that which is being stored up in heaven for us, the redeemed! It is solely for the reward of being with Jesus and the Father that we have chosen to forget what this life can give in favor of the life to come. No greater desire have we than this, to see Jesus sitting at the right hand of the Father and because He has loved us and redeemed us, we too are called to sit WITH Him on His throne!

    What JOY!
    What a HOPE!
    What a PROMISE!
