    Please Don't Misunderstand Me

In a group setting, whether in person or online, if someone shares a truth with the group and another adds to what they said, please understand what is happening. This other person adding on is not trying to "show you up" or "put you down". It is the nature of the Holy Spirit to lead us all into the truth. He speaks to us all. In the following verses, we can see how this works:

    1 Corinthians 14:29-31 (ESV)
Let two or three prophets speak, and let the others weigh what is said. 30 If a revelation is made to another sitting there, let the first be silent. 31 For you can all prophesy one by one, so that all may learn and all be encouraged,

God has, from the very beginning, been revealing Himself in 3s. Even in the gospels we see evidence of this truth as one gospel writer reveals one aspect, another writes in agreement but adds another aspect, while yet another writes of the same while revealing yet more details.

In the Old Testament, in order for an accusation to be brought against another, it must be from the mouth of 2 or 3 witnesses. It is the same when the truth is being revealed. One may speak in one way while another speaks in another way. You may speak revealing one side of a coin while another may speak of the other side of the same coin. Or, another may speak providing a greater look at the details of that same side of the coin you speak of.

This is the manner in which the Holy Spirit establishes truth in the hearts of those who seek it. In this way, we all may contribute and all may be edified.

So, in summary, we all may contribute for the benefit of all. There IS no competition in the revealing of the truth. We all worship the same Lord and we all see Him differently according to where we are in our growth and understanding. Therefore, when another speaks, it is not to show off, or put another one down but it is to exalt that One we all worship and wish to know better.

Let us, then, share our portion of what God has given us and rejoice when another adds to what we shared. Let us SEE God's hand in this and recognize how the Holy Spirit uses these comments to bring glory to the Father.

One final thought. Should correction come, it is not to condemn or accuse. The purpose of correction is to straighten a crooked path. We have all done it. We have all strayed from a straight path and have wandered onto a crooked path. It is the mercy of God and His great love that correction comes. When my son was in home school, I marked incorrect answers as wrong as well as marking correct answers as such. The purpose of marking incorrect answers as wrong is to train him how to do it correctly.

It is the same when correcting someone who is trying to learn a truth but has chosen the wrong path to this truth. If another stands by, sees this and does nothing, it is sin to them to not involve themselves in correcting the error. But if we see another in error or stumbling down the wrong path, it is our responsibility to help them in correcting their path for the fact you are there and witness this is evidence that God has placed you there for that very purpose. This can be found in the following verses. In these verses we can clearly see the attitude of The Lord in is love. We are all called to help one another in our walk with The Lord. If one falls, we are all affected. It is the love of God in us that prompts us to come to the aid of one who is stumbling.

    Galatians 6:1-6
    The Practice of Love
1 Brethren, if a man be overtaken in a fault, ye which are spiritual, restore such a one in the spirit of meekness; considering thyself, lest thou also be tempted.
2 Bear ye one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.
3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
4 But let every man prove his own work, and then shall he have rejoicing in himself alone, and not in another.
5 For every man shall bear his own burden.
6 -- Let him that is taught in the word communicate unto him that teacheth in all good things.
