    The True Nature of Job's Three Friends

    The True Nature of Job's Three Friends

    1. The first is Eliphaz, the Temanite:
    Eliphaz = "my God is (fine) gold" "God of Gold, Riches"
    Temanite = "inhabitant of the south; earthly wisdom; religious legalism"
    The first one is "The God of Gold" coming from "Earthly wisdom; religious legalism"

    2. Next is Bildad, the Shuhite:
    Bildad = son of contention; contender
    Shuhite = accuser
    The second is "son of contention" coming from "accuser"

    3. Next is Zophar, the Naamathite:
    Zophar: chatterer; agreeable, agreeableness; compromiser
    Naamathite: Foolish; wisdom of Fools
    The third friend is a "compromiser" coming from "the wisdom of fools". A fool is defined, "One who does not fear God".

    These do not appear to true friends of a righteous man but a man of the world. They came from afar indicates they came from his distant past...at that time BEFORE he believed God. These were NOT his current friends but from his past. They did not recognize him not because of his physical afflictions but because he was a completely different man from when they last knew him. Their arrival had such a devastating affect on Job because after the loss of everything, now it appears that he was back to that place before God came into his life and turned things around. Now Job felt all was truly lost and so convinced he was of this that he cursed the day of his birth and in so doing, Job sinned with his lips.
