    They Will Consider Nothing Sacred

    2 Timothy 3:2 NLT
"For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. THEY WILL CONSIDER NOTHING SACRED."
    "They will consider NOTHING sacred."

This is such a scary thought and declaration. We are living in that time when nothing seems to be sacred. Life seems not to be sacred as we continue see a rise in deadly crime and not just the sensational nationally televised events like in Colorado and most recently Wisconsin. On the local level we are seeing an unprecedented rise in drug related crime, domestic violence, drive-bys, sexual related murders and on and on. That which most decent people consider sacred, life itself, is continually traveling down the slippery slope of destruction as we place a greater value for selfish desires and think nothing of killing the innocent unborn children through abortion. No nation in history has killed more of its children than what is happening today in the killing fields of convenience and selfish desires.

The reason this is happening is because we, as a people, have elected to remove the Holy One of Israel from before us. Without the Fear of the Lord, we no longer have that which is needed to govern our thoughts and actions. We have chosen to cast off all restraint and choose to obey only one law. The law of our own will. This law is in constant prominence in virtually everything we are exposed to, such as, television, music, and movies. All these forms of media promote a selfish lifestyle and as we've seen recently, when a godly man speaks forth his convictions of truth, the mainstream media pounce on it, not to extoll his virtuous stance, but to highlight the opponents of righteousness in their assertions against God and His truth.

Unless the righteous rise up against this tidal wave of rebellion, we face the prospect of being swallowed up by it. The sin of selfish permeates every aspect of life but it CAN be stopped IF we, as followers of Christ, refuse its influence in every aspect of our lives. We are in this world but are no longer of this world. Does this mean we need to insulate ourselves from this world's influences. ABSOLUTELY! Isn't this taking an extremist stance? Yes, it is. But many Christians would protest because this would seem to take away most of our pleasures especially movies. Ah, the devil's stronghold! No venue has caused greater compromise than that which comes out of Hollywood. We are taught in the movies themes that contradict our own confessions of faith. We are taught by God's Word that violence begets violence and that if we live by the sword, by the sword we will perish. Yet, even in the best of movies, violence is promoted to fight against evil. God's Word teaches that we fight not against flesh and blood but this truth is nowhere to be seen in the most popular movies. Instead, the movies teach us that our only hope for truth and justice to prevail IS through the use of violence. Faith and Trust in God is not what is being promoted. Even Believers walk away from these epic on screen battles with the feelings of exhilaration as 'good' defeats 'evil'. But just like the constant motion of the waves of the sea against the shore line wears away its boundaries through the process of erosion, so does this continual onslaught against the precepts of God's Word upon the hearts and minds of the children of God. Our values are slowly being compromised through agreement, not with God but with that which shakes its fist against the knowledge of God.

Is it no wonder that God, in His infinite wisdom advises us to stay away from all those who support this lie.
    2 Timothy 3:3-5
They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self- control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. 4 They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. 5 They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!
Even with this argument I am putting forth, there will be those whose consciences have been so seared by the lies of this world that they will see no harm to what they consider harmless exposure to these lies. They have convinced themselves they are strong enough. However, they are unable to see the actual harm being done because pride will have blinded their eyes to the truth. If they are true seekers of holiness before the Lord, they will abstain from ALL influences of the enemy of their soul. Our true enemy knows he will not deceive true believers through the use of strong measures so a less dangerous method is used. He will not use a fire hose or even a garden hose to quench the fire of a true believer but will, instead, use a seemingly harmless squirt gun. The unsuspecting and careless Christian feels over-confident and does not consider this a threat. Pride is lifted up with the thought they can handle this.

This brings to mind a story of a father being invited to join his kids and their friends to see an "R" rated movie. He declines because of the language, sexuality and violence. His children object saying there is only one quick scene of nudity, almost no bad language and not much in the way of violence. He holds his ground and refuses to allow them to go to the movie. After thinking about this and seeing the disappointment on their faces, he felt an abject lesson is needed. So he began to prepare their favorite snack, brownies with one very different ingredient...just a smidgen of doggy poo was added. When the brownies were ready and the smell permeated the household, all his children and their visiting friends gathered around to partake. Before they took their first bite, he told them that he added a very special ingredient, a very tiny amount of doggie poo. He told them that although there was so little amount of doggy poo added, it was still okay to eat. Such a small amount will not matter and assured everyone that no one would get sick. But no matter how much he tried to persuade them, no one would take a bite. And so he illustrated to them about the 'poison' being fed them in those movies.

Jesus says that a little leaven leavens the whole lump. A little lie taints the whole truth. A little compromise causes whatever holiness we may have to become tainted and causes us to become unholy. If holiness is required to see God, just a little unholiness can prevent us from seeing Him. At no time would we be overwhelmed with shame than when we are brought before Him and through shame we cannot even lift our eyes to look upon His Holiness. It is pride that causes us to believe the lie that a little squirt gun cannot harm us. It is through pride we justify ourselves and our appetites.

Consider the cost of holiness. Are you willing to pay the price for holiness or will you be one who will compromise to satisfy your own values, to please yourself instead of pleasing God. Is the Fear of God active in your life? Where will that line of Holiness unto God be drawn? When compromise becomes the rule, then where does that which is sacred stand? Rejecting one part of the truth is the same as rejecting the whole truth. This slippery road of compromise has no rest stop and no exit. Its destination is destruction. Only repentance, a change of mind and action along with the power of God, His Grace, can halt our slide to destruction. Only through the Fear of the Lord will we be able to resist. We are offered so great a gift of salvation, will we squander this gift like Esau did when he sold his birthright just to satisfy his appetite? Although he sought for redemption, even with tears, he was denied and rejected by God. His heart was not truly repentant but only sought to regain what he had lost. God considers this an evil heart.

We are seeing today, in vivid clarity, what the end of compromise is.....violence begets violence. They will consider nothing as sacred. This too is our end IF the line against compromise is not drawn. I pray that the God of all Truth enlighten your eyes and your heart to see what the Spirit is saying to you now.
