    To Be Carnally Minded...

    To Be Carnally Minded...

    Romans 8:5-8 (NKJV)
For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. 6 For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. 7 Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God.
What exactly does it look like to be carnally minded?

The biblical explanation, typically should be enough for those believers who have departed from their old appetites and adopted the new appetites of the Spirit of God. But what happens when the flesh begins to take over?

It happens more often than you think. In fact, many offenses arise when someone who has started to return to that old carnal nature is confronted about their sin.

The carnal mind will reject all counsel in favor of their own reasonings. Instead of yielding, they justify their choices using logic and rationalization.

The carnal mind will argue scripture to justify themselves rather than justify God.

The carnal mind cannot see or understand that what they are doing is to satisfy their flesh instead of doing that which pleases God.

The carnal mind will challenge another's motives as judgmental instead of one attempting to restore them to right relationship to God.

The carnal mind does not walk humbly but proudly without considering the price of their actions, having justified themselves in their own minds.

When challenged, the carnal mind becomes offended and in turn, judges the one who is challenging them as being religious.

The carnal mind does not seek the wisdom from above but judges for itself what it thinks is good or evil, not understanding that it is not in man that walks to direct his own way.

Instead of pursuing righteousness, peace and joy of the Holy Spirit, the carnal mind seeks happiness, fun, relaxation in and through what they feel is okay in their perception that God wants them to be happy. In this way, they have deceived themselves and are playing in the devil's playground.

The carnal mind seeks attention and acceptance among men, to be the most popular, to be the leader and counts their success by the number of followers.

The carnally minded will take a break from religious activities saying to themselves that we all need a break from time to time. In this too, they justify their choices instead of seeking God's choices for them.

Whereas, the spiritually minded does not seek its own but seeks only those things that pleases the One they serve...God. They will easily yield to godly counsel and walk humbly without argument or self-justification. They do not seek friendship with the world or to be the most popular for they know that the world will hate them and so they do not try to please the world but please God alone. In doing this, they often find themselves alone or with fewer friends. Their friends will look like them and not seek their own pleasure or their own way or make their own choices but they leave the choices for their lives up to God.

Can YOU, the reader, ask yourself the hard honest question...Am I seeking to please myself or am I seeking to always please God? THIS is the question we must ask ourselves and examine every thought and motivation of the why we do what we do.

If someone approaches you about their concern of how you are living your life and express their disagreement with what they see, do you defend yourself or do you yield. If you defend yourself, then pride still has a hold of you. If you yield in humility, then this is proof that you are God's.

I challenge you today...Are you carnally minded or are you spiritually minded? The proof of this is in the choices in life you make and others can see clearly which choice you have made where you are blind to it.

What if, one day, you try to convince one of your friends who is not a believer to see their need for a Savior and they say, "Why do I need a Savior, all my Christian friends live the same way I do. If they are okay, then I'm okay."

Will this be enough to convince you that you are living a carnally minded life? Think about it. Better yet, ask God to show you whether you are carnally minded or not. Let His answer be your answer instead of you convincing yourself that you are okay.
