    What Does Faith Look Like?

The woman with the issue of blood who suffered for 12 years. With a progressive disease that continues to get worse as time went on, she no longer had the physical strength to walk. No doubt she had heard of Jesus and all the miracles He was doing but undoubtedly, she never thought SHE would have the chance to be where He was. She couldn't travel and everyone had already given up on her. No money, no doctor, no friends.

There is nothing that can rid you of your friends like a protracted illness, especially one like this. The constant bleeding and the odors. Enough to drive even the most saintly of people away for twelve long years. This woman had virtually no hope until that day when a crowd of people came her way.

Beyond all hope, she learned it was this Jesus passing by and near enough to her that she felt there may be hope after all. Will all her strength, she crawled through the crowd to reach Him and just before He was out of reach, she reached out and touched that blue threaded tassel on His garment. This blue thread was commanded by God through Moses to be added to the tassels to the four corners of their garment as a reminder to obey God's commandments.

In Jewish tradition, they equated God's name to the law so when you touched the tassel, you were, in effect, touching the name of God. This was her target and the moment she touched it, she felt the warm glow of the power of healing coming into her body. She knew she was being healed. But when Jesus asked who touched Him, fear gripped her heart.

What if God didn't want to heal her? Thoughts of fear and rejection constantly bombard the mind and heart of one who has seen this kind of suffering for twelve years. But with her strength returning, something stronger than fear rose up in her heart. That was an overwhelming sense of gratefulness to God for healing what all had considered a worthless woman. So with fear and visible trembling, she cast herself at His feet and acknowledged that it was she who touched Jesus.

Then she heard the most tender and comforting words she had ever heard in her entire life as He gently spoke to her. Even the sound of those words pierced her heart with a love that could not be mistaken. Such is the power of the words spoken by Love Himself.

Faith, the substance of things hoped for; the evidence of things unseen. Such was that undying hope that drove that tortured woman to one final effort to receive what she knew would be hers.
